Inside the dynamic sport of vision impaired table tennis

Hitting the ball over the net is generally a sound table tennis tactic. However, in swish, also known as vision impaired table tennis, that is definitely not the case.

Sometimes likened to a mixture of traditional table tennis and air hockey, swish can be enjoyed by people across the visual spectrum.

An Australian invention, the sport is played all around the country, particularly in Victoria and Queensland.

Jenni Forbes, who heads the Frankston swish club in Victoria, has seen the game go from strength to strength in recent years.

She says a lot of the sport's appeal stems from an inclusivity that is written into its rules and embodied by its equipment.
